Creating a game trailer involves several key stages to highlight the best aspects of the game and engage the audience. The process begins with the concept and planning phase, where goals, target audience, and key features are defined. Next is game capture, where we carefully record synchronised, dynamic, and visually striking gameplay that reflects the game’s mechanics, story, and atmosphere in line with the concept. In the editing phase, the footage is cut together, enhanced with visual effects and transitions, and paired with a compelling soundtrack or voiceover. During these phases you will have the opportunity to review and feedback on your trailer to ensure the trailer aligns with the game’s vision and marketing strategy before delivering the polished final product for distribution across multiple platforms.
In the proposal phase, we start by gathering all the necessary information through your provided brief and we complete an initial asset appraisal - from here we can understand your objectives, scope, and any technical or creative requirements. Based on this, we’ll create a detailed proposal outlining our approach, timeline, costs, and deliverables.
Based on your requirements, we'll create a minimum of three concepts for you to choose from. Once you've selected your preferred creative approach, you'll have the chance to provide feedback and request revisions to ensure it aligns perfectly with your vision.
Once the proposal is finalised, we can either share our statement of work with you or review yours. This document will outline all terms and deliverables. Once the contract is signed, we'll begin the project, following the agreed-upon roadmap while maintaining open communication and providing regular updates throughout the process.
Asset appraisals for video game builds and game assets involve assessing the status, quality, and overall condition of the game - including characters, environments, animations, and other digital content. These appraisals are crucial for understanding the current state of a game’s development, it allows us to understand what’s possible to capture and ensures we can meet TrailerFarm’s and your own quality standards. They are typically needed at the start of the pre-production phase during the project, or when preparing for partnerships for us to concept, script, and plan your trailer effectively.
2D animation refers to flat, two-dimensional artwork that moves on a plane; up, down, left, and right. It’s the traditional style of animation where characters and backgrounds are drawn or digitally created in a flat space.
2.5D animation blends 2D elements with the illusion of depth, making flat images appear three-dimensional. This technique often uses layering, lighting effects, and camera movements to create a more dynamic and immersive look while still working with 2D assets. It’s commonly seen in video games, explainer videos, and modern animated films.
An edit job is where you give us the assets or game footage and it's our job to edit the trailer together by cutting clips, adding effects, transitions, and making it look polished. A capture and edit job means we handle everything from recording the gameplay to editing it. This involves setting up the game capture, getting the right shots, and then turning that raw footage into a finished video.
Edit jobs are post-production, while capture and edit jobs cover the whole process from start to finish. Since capture takes more time and gear, it’s usually priced higher.
No problem! That's what we're here for. If you know you need something to showcase your gameplay but you're not quite sure what that is, our specialist team of Producers and Game Capture experts can discuss this with you and recommend the best approach to ensure you get the best value for money and an awesome trailer that showcases your game to its full potential.
If you already have an idea in mind then that's great, we can work with that! We'll still review your concept with you and spend time working this up into a shot list that the capture team (yours or ours) can follow. If you have a vision, we want to help bring it to life.
Once we send you an edit or an element of the trailer, we expect you to have comments and feedback! The package that has been selected will determine how many iterations (based on number of days) are included in the trailer-making process.
Once you have provided your feedback, we will review this and if it falls outside of the included scope, this will be discussed directly with you so that we can collaboratively agree on the best next steps.
To get started on your exciting project, we will need a top level brief, access to your build, any existing assets/branding/key arts that you have, and any concepts if available. Here's a quick checklist:
- Asset source files: Such as logos, key art, and any existing promotional material.
- Access to your game build or a Steam key for the platform(s) where the game is available
- Gameplay capture guidelines (if you have specific moments or features to highlight) and dev commands
- Brand guidelines (to ensure consistency with your visual and tonal identity)
We can provide the final deliverable in various formats, depending on your needs. Common options include MP4 and MOV, but let us know if you have a specific preference. Additionally, we can deliver in 4K, 1080p, or any resolution that suits your project requirements. Let us know your preferred specifications, and we’ll ensure the final output meets your expectations.
If we’ve worked together before and an MNDA has already been signed, we can get started right away.
If we’ve worked on your IP or brand before, we’ll already be familiar with its style, tone, and key elements, allowing us to hit the ground running. If it’s a new project but we’ve collaborated with you previously, the signed MNDA means we can jump straight in. In both cases, we’ll ensure we align with your latest vision and any updated requirements.
If we haven’t worked with you before, we’ll need to get up to speed on your brand, IP, and vision for the project. This includes understanding your style, tone, and key messaging to ensure the trailer aligns with your goals. An MNDA will be required and we can arrange that upfront. Once we have access to the necessary assets and game build, we’ll be ready to get started.
We’d love to collaborate on multiple projects as part of a larger campaign. If you’re planning a series of trailers or marketing assets, we can discuss tailored packages, discounted rates, and cost-effective solutions to maximise your budget. Let’s chat about how we can support your campaign and bring your vision to life.
